On Friday, when it was announced that President Trump and his wife had contracted COVID-19, I tried and I think successfully to balance my honest hope for their recovery and my anger with him for not taking this seriously. I thought for sure he would be humbled by this experience and listen to the scientists. That we would see support for wearing masks and protecting others, we would see social distancing and no more packed stadiums. None of this happened.
We do not know how severe a case he has because as with all information that comes out of the White House it is spun to present a candidate that is superior to all. From what the scientists say the virus does not discriminate it can hit anyone and it can be mild or severe. We do know that he contracted the disease and was sick enough that he went to the hospital. This is a man who tries to portray that he is never sick and is strong and vibrant so the fact that he let them take him to Walter Reed he had to feel bad.
We do know that he had state of the art care. He had medication and treatments that are not readily available to anyone else.
We can see that his is up and walking around, but what does that mean? Truth is we do not know. According to Dr. Lewis Kaplan, the President of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, and a surgeon at the University of Pennsylvania: “Some patients may develop psychiatric symptoms after being treated with steroids including euphoria, mood instability, rage or psychosis. It is rare but occurs often enough that we recognize them as undesirable side effects of steroid therapy.” This is what has been referred to as “Steroid Euphoria”. Could the president be suffering from this? We do not know.
We can ask ourselves what the mental state of someone is who scoffs at those who are trying to protect others by wearing masks and maintaining social distancing and ridicules those who have died. I guess we should not be surprised this is the same man who only likes soldiers who do not get caught and do not get killed defending our freedom. I can almost hear him say that those who died of the virus were somehow weak. He implies this when he says ‘don’t worry about the virus ..it will go away…do not let it run your lives…it isn’t that bad’. Is this his version of survival of the fittest? In my opinion someone who does not take seriously the fact that 210,000+ Americans have died of this virus is not looking out for the good of the country.
Think about this before you vote:
Do you want a President who will do everything in his power to make sure he and everyone around him maintain his image?
Or
Do you want a President who will do everything in his power to make sure Americans are safe, valued and protected?
I know I want a President who will respect, value, and protect all Americans!
Well said and Thank you
Thanks! You really expressed what I have been thinking. The President has suggested that he beat the virus because he was just that tough, and that he engaged with the virus as a brave commander in chief against the advice of his advisors that he cower in the White House residence is surely not truthful. I am sure no one suggested that course of action to him. Some of them, if they were feeling especially brave themselves, might have suggested that he wear a mask to avoid endangering them and others with whom he came in contact. No too likely!
